On a visit to the deli counter, I noticed this interesting sign. While the deli expert was still busy processing my ham order and my silent counterpart was that very sign, the "cryptic text" raised a few question marks. What message does Mr. Billa want to convey here (or what is the smart guy's name anyway? No, not the Ja Natuerlich "farmer & piglet", but the other one - the urban gentleman. The parent company has already given the Merkur man the name Anonymous). So what is being communicated here? "In our deli you can save on bribe money!" means: we serve every customer the same. Financial favors are not necessary.
Every customer is king (or queen) here! Well, I would hope so, Mr. Billa... or does it mean... no matter what you (the customer) offer the "deli expert", ham, sausage and cheese will be slapped onto the paper according to her own taste and craftsmanship and decorated with foil. Delicacies quickly become rough fare. Dear Billa man, is there no generally binding procedure, guidance, training... or whatever else for aspiring "deli experts" so that "fine" stays "fine"? ... or does it mean... Dear suppliers, to be offered in our deli counter and brought to customers by our deli experts, no "grease money" is required. We are happy to list you, but we would appreciate it if you support our "minus 25%" promotions. Aha. ... or does it mean, "Anything else?" - "No thanks, that would be all!" Too bad: now the "deli expert" has pulled me out of my cloud of question marks. Whatever it was meant to say, Mr. Billa, thank you for the entertaining little sign riddle.
